AviMate Newsletter #18 (9/8/01):
DON'T
MISS THIS UPGRADE
SERIOUS ARCHIVE BUG FIXED
If you archive nursery records; such as, after a chick is sold, you are strongly urged to update AviMate as soon as possible. In version 3, we made a major architectural change in the archive database. Unfortunately in the process, we let a serious bug slip by. After archiving a chick in the nursery, AviMate could delete an active chick in the nursery as well! Build 44 corrects this problem.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
NO HOT FIX PATCH AVAILABLE
We also found it necessary to totally rebuild our installation routine since several people, especially a few Windows 95 users, were having installation difficulties. The good news is that we shaved 1.5 megs off of the size of our AviMate installation file. The bad news is that it is still a 13.5 meg file and all who want to update to the latest AviMate maintenance release must download it. Build 44 is now our new software baseline. We'll try to provide small patches off of this build if the need for future bug fixes arises.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
INSTALL BUILD 44 OVER EXISTING AVIMATE 3 FILES
Our installation program is smart enough to properly install over your existing AviMate program. Please DO NOT uninstall AviMate and then run the new install program -- this will delete your AviMate 3 database! However, please DO backup your database before running our installation program just to be on the safe side.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
OUR RECENT FIXES SUMMARIZED:
Problems fixed in Version 3.0.44 --

4. When adding or editing payments in the invoice, could receive Run-time error 3251 - "Operation is not supported for this type of object."
5. Payment grid was not displaying notepad icon when the details section contained information.
6. The nursery browse screen displayed deceased babies when "Show Sold Only" was selected.

LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD RESELLERS
It's no secret -- we're trying everything we can to raise AviMate sales so we can afford to continue supporting this product line. To this end, we are looking for a few good Internet and catalog folks who can resell AviMate and BirdSpeech 101. For those who have a popular bird breeder-related website, we can give you guidance on setting up a PayPal shopping cart and processing credit card payments. We are interested in making this a financial win-win situation. Get in touch with me if seriously interested.

NEW WEB SERVICE: RING CENTRAL
Web rings have become a popular way for surfers to jump from one similar web site to another. As a service to the bird-loving public, we've built AviMate Ring Central. From here you can jump onto over 40 different rings! Check it out at http://www.avimate.com/ringcentral.htm .
--------------------------------------------------------------------
MAC USER SOLUTION
Due to the limited market, we do not plan on ever having a native Mac version of AviMate. However, we know of one user who is successfully using AviMate 3 on a Mac running the RealPC emulator with Windows 95. He formerly used SoftPC so that is another possibility.
We welcome input from other Mac users so we can report on other ways that AviMate is being used on this platform.

BIRD SHOW ANNOUNCEMENT
As space and time permits, we'll share bird show messages like this one which came to us:
"The Cajun Canary and Finch Club of New Orleans is proud to sponsor its 14th Annual Bird Show and Fair on December 1, 2001. Exotic birds and bird
accessories will be available for sale. Parrots, color/type canaries, budgies, cockatiels, and finches will be judged. We invite you to visit New
Orleans, a historical and gastronomic paradise, and participate as a vendor, an exhibitor, or a spectator at these events. If you have any questions, please e-mail me, or call me at 504-887-0724. I would appreciate your spreading the word about the show and fair. Thanks. Meade H. Phelps, Show and Fair Chairman."
