AviMate Newsletter #21 (7/31/02): WE'RE BACK WITH LOTS
OF NEWS! 20% DISCOUNTS THROUGH 9/11/02 CHECK OUT OUR SLIDE SHOW We'll be happy to loan a set of transparencies of these slides for bird club
representatives to use at a club meeting. And, as a special thank you, we'll
give 25% discounts to all club members who order AviMate within 30 days of such
an event! WE PULLED THE PLUG ON OUR PLUG-INS WINDOWS XP UPGRADE WOES Please also recognize that we provide free tech support beyond the 90 days stipulated in the AviMate license agreement as a gesture of goodwill. With this in mind, we ask that you limit your XP issues to explicit AviMate matters. For example, we'll be happy to re-send a misplaced registration license; but we are not in a position to give Windows guidance in general, like download procedures, Windows Explorer usage, etc. We do have a suggestion, however, for those who are not fluent in the use of PC's. There is a company on the Web (speakwithageek.com) that appears to offer reasonably priced support. We have no affiliation with them, but we have exchanged several e-mails. They claim to help resolve Windows problems and will even address application issues such as downloading, installing, and operating software such as AviMate. Here's their recent e-mail ad: "Talk to a live tech expert for free. Our geeks are trained and certified, and capable of fixing whatever computer problem you have over the phone, through chat, or email, in plain English and not techno-babble. SpeakWithAGeek.com is offering you a free no-obligation trial membership that you can use right now. Our experts will help you with anything tech: PC, Mac, hardware, software, networking or peripherals. To start your trial membership, please click on the following link: http://www.speakwithageek.com/promotion1.asp?adv=ml101 ." This above promo offers you 5 days of free support -- that might just be enough time for you to re-install your software on a new PC! Then again, you could buy a month's support from them for $34.95 (or a 6-month contract for $19.95/month). If you take up our suggestion, please let us know how useful they turn out to be. We'll share your experiences in a future newsletter. -------------------------------------------------------------------- OUR SOFTWARE CHANGES THIS YEAR 2. You can now easily check for software updates by selecting the "Check for Updates Online" feature in the Help menu of AviMate. Version 3.0.56 (7/18/02) Version 3.0.51 (4/24/02) ................................................ Problems Fixed -- Version 3.0.61 (7/26/02) 2. Egg list flickered when saving clutch records. Version 3.0.56 (7/18/02) 2. When the expense list is customized or sorted, the settings were not retained, forcing you to re-enter custom settings each time you ran AviMate. 3. The button located at the bottom of the Backup/Restore screen was relabeled to "Go" to avoid confusion -- previously two buttons were labeled the same. 4. "Error 6, Overflow, in module modMain, sub DaysRemaining" occurred at startup on some client PC's. Version 3.0.51 (4/24/02) 2. The tax rate in the invoice service could be set to a decimal, causing a Run-time error 3421 - Data type conversion error. 3. Overflow errors occurring under the Windows XP operating system. Sincerely, Alex Davidoff P.S. SPREAD THE WORD In this way, they too can play a part in assuring that AviMate remains a viable product for many years to come.
